Active harmonic filter

  • An active harmonic filter is an electronic device used to correct and eliminate harmonics in an electrical system.
  • Unlike passive harmonic filters, which absorb and dissipate harmonic energy, active filters use an electronic circuit to generate a reverse current that cancels unwanted harmonics. This allows for more precise and efficient harmonic correction, resulting in a significant reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD) levels in the power supply. In other words, the active harmonic filter eliminates harmonics, while the filter bank removes some harmonics and corrects the power factor .
  • Active harmonic filters are commonly used in high-power electrical installations and industrial applications to improve power quality and reduce energy costs.
